Discovering the Etna volcano by Jeep

Talking about Etna we have to imagine a complex volcanic system, young and active, which has three large summit craters.

The base of this immense volcano measures about 200 kilometers.

Thanks to the different climatic exposures, it has macro areas different from each other, as regards to climate and average annual temperatures. It changes the vertical limit of the most important crops such as vines, olives and citruses.

For this reason, we prefer to differ our tours between Etna North and Etna South with variants that can touch the Eastern and Western slopes.

ITINERARY

Ragabo Refuge

Our experience will start from your hotel, where our 8-seater off-roader TOYOTA LAND CRUISER with your expert Etna driver will pick you up at the agreed time.

We will ascend the mountain from its Northeastern side, going through black stone towns of Piedimonte and Linguaglossa. By the road called Mareneve, meaning the sea and snow, we will reach one of the mountain refuges at high altitude, where we have a coffee break and a briefing.

From there our hiking starts.

Walking that track is not very difficult; it is a trail of about 4 kilometers and 100 mt of difference in altitude, so it is suitable for families and people of all ages.

On this tour, we will see the effects of the eruption of 1865, which gave rise to so called eruptive system of Sartorius Mountains.

There will be many points of interest during the walk such as massive lava bombs, indigenous Etna flora, the front view of the biggest cinder cone of Etna and much more.

Zappinazzu and Grotta del Corruccio

At the end of our trekking, immersed in the pine forest of Ragabo, we will go by jeep, down the old national road broken up by a lava flow in 2002.

We will reach a century old pine tree called Zappinazzu, probably the oldest one on Etna, protagonist of numerous legends. Ultimately, we will vist the Grotta del Corruccio – the effusive cavity of the eruptive system of Mount Coruccio.

Our day ends with lunch at Rifugio Ragabo restaurant, a pretty place at 1425 m above sea level.

The return to your hotel is expected in the early afternoon.

The duration of this tour is about 5 to 6 hours. Jeep sharing intending.

Chauffeured all-terrain vehicle Toyota Land cruiser, equipment for visit the caves and for hiking, pick up and drop off at your hotel.
