Discovering the Etna volcano by Jeep
Our experience will start from your hotel, where our 8-seater off-roader TOYOTA LAND CRUISER with your expert Etna driver will pick you up at the scheduled time.
Talking about Etna we have to imagine a complex volcanic system, young and active, which has three large summit craters. The base of this immense volcano measures about 200 kilometers. Thanks to the different climatic exposures, it has macro areas different from each other, as regards to climate and average annual temperatures.
It changes the vertical limit of the most important crops such as vines, olives and citruses. For this reason, we prefer to differ our tours between Etna North and Etna South with variants that can touch the Eastern and Western slopes.
ITINERARY
Etna Wine Route
We will ascend the Northeastern side of volcano, driving through the small volcanic towns of Presa and Vena until we reach the Etna Wine Route, with its significant presence of small wineries, producers of excellent DOC wines.
Entrance to Grotta delle Nevi or Grotta dei Ladroni
Going up the old road of Chiesa Magazzeni, we will admire the impressive floods of solid lava already from the altitude of 1000 mt asl.
Driving between chestnuts and birch trees, we will arrive up to 1700 mt asl, where we would have the opportunity to visit a particular lava cave called Snow Cave.
Over the years that cave used to be a hold for snow, which was stored there to be then resold in the following summer.

Afterwards the Refugio Citelli will give us shelter for some refreshments.
We will be continuing with the hiking of about 4 km. The trail will take us directly to the eruption of year 1865, which gave rise to the eruptive system of Sartorius Mountains.
That circuit is ideal for all ages and fit, it is about 150 mt of difference in altitude.
There will be many points of interest during the walk such as massive lava bombs, indigenous Etna flora, the front view of the biggest cinder cone of Etna and much more.
Hundred Horse Chestnut
Hundred Horse Chestnut
After the walk on craters, we will head straight to the legendary Hundred Horse Chestnut.
It is the largest and oldest known chestnut tree in the world.
In 2006 it was enlisted by UNESCO as World Heritage.

We will end up our day at a winery, where you could chose a wine degustation or just have a glass of wine, lying on a green lawn under the hot Sicilian sun.
We will get back to your place in the afternoon.
