The visit of Mount Etna would not be complete without a discovery of summit craters at 3300 meters above sea level to hear the breath of the Volcano.

It is an excursion of medium difficulty, which does not require any hard efforts but just a good health.

This experience will begin from square of the cable cab station of Rifugio Sapienza Etna Sud (Coord: 37.7006235 – 14.9983696).

This excursion does not include the pick up and drop at your place, but if necessary you can request it at booking stage.

After a short preparatory meeting, you will be provided with the equipment useful for the excursion up to 3000 meters asl.

Northeast Crater

We will reach the height of 2900 meters with the cable cars and 4×4 minibuses of authorized company until the place called Torre del Filosofo.

From here starts the hiking of about two hours, with two breaks to rest and admire the panorama, up to the summit craters.

The surrounding landscape is similar to lava fields.

The most challenging climb will take us up to the Etna’s summit, recently declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The descent on foot will be through the sand dunes, along which we will meet several craters and even a canal of lava flow.

We will return on foot down to the upper cable car station that gets us back to the starting point.

Excurion time: 6/7h

Equipment required: Medium/long socks, long pants, t-shirt, fleece, windbreaker, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, backpack with 2 L of water, packed lunch (gloves and scarf in autumn and winter).
