Mt. Etna South – Half day

Ideal jeep tour to immerse yourself for half a day in the landscape
and culture of Etna, declared a World Heritage Site in 2015.

“Mt. Etna South” is a half-day excursion, which it will take about 5/6 hours, between riding on jeeps and walking tours, to discover the southern side of Mt. Etna, its landscapes and its flavors.

Among the most popular sightseeing, with a beautiful and wide panorama, the south-east side of ​​Mt. Etna can be considered relatively young, having formed over the last 200 years.

Discovering the Etna volcano by Jeep

The mountain, with its unpredictable eruptions, modifies the landscape, fertilizes the land, marks the times of peasant life still active on the slopes of the volcano.

It will therefore be a whole day dedicated to the discovery of the southern side of Etna, an excursion that will allow us to know some of the peculiarities of the south-east area, formed in the last 200 years, between jeeps and hiking, including honey and wine tastings and visits to points of interest.

ITINERARY

“Mt. Etna South” tour begin with our 8-seater Toyota Land Cruiser an off-road vehicle led by our expert Etna driver, will pick you up at the hotel at the agreed time.

We will proceed up to the south-east side of the mountain, crossing the inhabited centers of Santa Venerina and Zafferana. In this municipality, the production of honey is important.

So, we will stop for a quick tasting at a historic “honey house“, not far from the flow that almost destroyed the town of Zafferana in 1991.

Monte Pomiciaro and Valle del Bove

We will continue on the SP 92 for about 5 km, until we reach Monte Pomiciaro, with its view on the Valle del Bove, which is where the magma flows thus saving the inhabited centers around the volcano.

A few kilometers with our off-road vehicles will take us to the Sapienza Refuge, where we can have coffee and where our initial briefing will be held before leaving for the excursion on foot.

The route develops in just over 4 km and 200 meters sandy but not technical. We will head towards “Piano Malerba” on the famous path called “Schiena dell’asino“, until we arrive on the southeast bank of the “Valle del Bove“.

Here we will take a break and you can take some pictures.

On the way back we will stop at the Cave of Pythagoras, so called because of its triangular shape.

At the end of our trip we will begin the descent along the SP 59, known as the Etna wine route, all of this while admiring the surrounding vineyards and small villages.

We will return to the hotel in the early afternoon.

The duration of the tour is about 5/6 hours and the vehicle will be shared with other passengers.

The tour includes:
Off-road vehicle with driver, equipment for visiting the cave and trekking, pick-up / drop off from/at your hotel, and honey tasting.

The tour does not include:
tickets for entrances or lifts where applicable.
