Etna Jeep & Hiking Tour is a wonderful jeep tour,
a day trip to experience the trekking adventure on the Etna volcano.
Our ETNA JEEP & HIKING TOUR will let you discover in details the Southeastern part of Mt. Etna, formed in the last 70 years. It is a full-day: the duration of the tour is in fact about 7 hours from the pick-up, and involves sharing the vehicle with other guests.
Discovering the Etna volcano by Jeep
Talking about Etna we have to imagine a complex volcanic system, young and active, which has three large summit craters.
The base of this immense volcano measures about 200 kilometers. Thanks to the different climatic exposures, it has macro areas different from each other, as regards to climate and average annual temperatures. It changes the vertical limit of the most important crops such as vines, olives and citruses.
For this reason, we prefer to differ our tours between Etna North and Etna South with variants that can touch the Eastern and Western slopes.
ITINERARY
Etna wine route
Our experience will start from your hotel, where our 8-seater off-roader TOYOTA LAND CRUISER with your expert Etna driver will pick you up at the scheduled time.
We will leave the sea behind and ascend the Southeast slope of Mount Etna.
We will drive through the volcanic towns of Santa Venerina and Zafferana, the latter well known for honey production. There we will stop for a short degustation at a historic Honey House.
We will continue on Wine Route so called for DOC production area of Etna wines, than taking the Mareneve Road, which brings us up to 1740 mt asl.
Citelli refuge

We will have reached the Rifugio Citelli, our base point, built on the old crater of Monte delle Concazze of about 3000 years old.
From there we will start our hiking.
That is a trail of about 4 kilometers and 400 mt of difference in altitude, medium level of challenge. Our first place of interest is the Grotta del Serracozzo, formed by an eruption of 1971.
Valle del Bove

In the second part of our walk, we will discover the Valle del Bove from the ridge, at the altitude of 2100 mt asl, looking at the Southwest side of Etna.
From there we will get back to our four-wheeler for a funny downhill track.
Zappinazzu
At the end of our mountain tour, we will have lunch in a typical and very welcoming refuge at 1850 mt asl.
In the early afternoon, we will begin the descent towards the sea.
Our last point of interest is a century old pine tree called Zappinazzu, probably the oldest one on Etna, protagonist of numerous legends.
The duration of this tour is about 7 hours. Jeep sharing intending.
